End of Term
What a wonderful start to the year we have had! This term we have had many exciting events already such as our Kindergarten Rainbow Day, Jellybeans Music Program, Gala Day, Easter Hat Parade, Harmony Day, World Down Syndrome Day our school Cross Country.
We wish all our families a safe and happy holiday break. School will return from students on Wednesday 30 April 2025.
We look forward to welcoming you all back then!

Zooper Dooper Friday!
Each Friday this term the P&C will be holding a fund-raising event. Zooper Doopers will be on sale at the end of the day from 3pm to 3:15pm for $1 each. This will take place on the basketball court.

Easter Hat Parade
Our annual P-2 Easter Hat Parade was an exciting school celebration this week. Once again this year, our students proudly wore their creatively decorated hats with pride. Styled in bunny ears and bright festive colours, our children and teachers were able to show off their creations while joining in with the fun.
Confidently, each class paraded around the school hall as friends and peers cheered them on with excitement. Singing traditional and a few contemporary Easter action songs, our students showed an appreciation for this special celebration on our school’s social calendar.
A surprise visit from the Easter Bunny capped off a morning of fun.
Overall, the P-2 Easter Hat Parade was a valuable experience for our school’s youngest learners, combining fun, learning, and community engagement.

Cultural Group
This month, during cultural group, students had the opportunity to dive into the rich history and culture of Australia’s Aboriginal people. They learned about the historical significance of the boomerang and its traditional uses in hunting and ceremonial practices. Students gained hands-on experience, creating their own boomerangs and testing it.
The students also explored Aboriginal art. They learned about the deep symbolism and storytelling within Aboriginal artwork, and had the chance to create their own sand art.
These activities not only gave the students an understanding of Aboriginal culture, but also provided a deeper appreciation for art, history, and the traditions that have been passed down through generations.

Cultural Group - Dance Workshop
We wrapped up the term with a meaningful workshop focused on Aboriginal culture through dance. Students had the opportunity to learn two traditional dances and one contemporary piece, each rich in cultural significance.Through movement, they explored themes like kangaroo hunting and the meaning of totems, discovering how dance serves as a powerful form of storytelling in Aboriginal traditions. It was a beautiful way to connect with culture, history, and creativity all at once!

Cross Country
The Annual Busby West Cross Country Carnival was held on the 2nd April, 2025 at Winnal Reserve, Green Valley.
What an amazing day! Students from years 2 to 6, walked to the reserve, at all times displaying their best manners and school pride.
We had some astoundingly fast runners, running laps of a challenging Cross Country track. Lots of hot and puffed bodies at the finish line, thankfully the P&C supported our students with bottles of water and fresh mandarins.
We had some super loud house chants, offering considerable support for their teammates running. Students who placed in the top 3 of their age group will be invited to attend the Green Valley District Cross Country Carnival. Well done to all our fast runners.
Congratulations to Moore, our carnival winners on an astounding 107 points. Followed by Macquarie on 95 points. Not far behind was Meehan on 83 points and finally we had Thompson on 41 points.

PSSA Gala Day
The first scheduled Gala Day for Season 1 was postponed due to the wet weather. GVPSSA made the decision to move Day 1 to Day 2, which students participated in last Friday. Therefore an additional Gala Day will now occur on Friday 2 May. Students will need to return the amended permission note that reflects the date change.
Thank you to the staff who have committed to taking teams and the support of our school community in providing this opportunity to students at Busby West.

School Holiday Activities
Please see below regarding free holiday activities organised by local community organisations.

SWS Local Health District – Healthy Family Bulletin
Students arriving late
We have noticed an increasing number of students arriving at school after the 9:00 am bell.
As a reminder, our school operates from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, and it is crucial for students to be present at school by 8:55 am to ensure they are settled and ready for the day ahead.
Here are some steps that families can use to ensure they arrive at school before 8:55am;

Students who arrive late are missing out on essential morning routines to set them up for a successful day of learning.
Students who arrive after the 9am school bell will need to be bought to the office by a parent to obtain a late note. This ensures that they have arrived at school safely.
Thank you for supporting us to ensure all students have the opportunity to reach their maximum learning potential and be an attendance HERO.
Animals on the school ground
We understand that many of our families are animal lovers. However, please note that under the Companion Animals Act 1998 (NSW, Section 14), animals are prohibited on school grounds unless the principal grants permission.
We thank you for your understanding with this.

Jellybeans Music

This year we have continued to provide expert tuition in music by employing specialist teachers. In term 2, Preschool Group B and Kindergarten will participate in music on Thursdays. The costs for these programs are covered by the school to ensure all students can attend. This year we request families contribute $10 each time your child participates in a program.
Communicating with you
We need to be able to connect with all families. Please use the Busby West Facebook page or the Sentral Parent Portal to keep up to date with notes, information and provide reasons for your child’s absences. Classes are also using ClassDojo.

Attendance
It is very important for children to develop habits of arriving on time at an early age, beginning from the time they start school. School starts promptly at 9:00am. All students are expected to be at school and in class from 9:00am to 3:00pm each day.
Please remind your child that they must go straight to their designated area when they arrive. Gates open at 8:30am each day. A couple of minutes here and there doesn’t seem like much but every minute counts!

All students are required to provide an explanation for absences on the day they return to school. Alternatively, you can send your child’s teacher a message on Class Dojo, or lodge an absent form via the SENTRAL Parent Portal App. If your child is absent for more than three days, they will require a medical certificate upon their return.
If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s attendance, please contact the office.

Indigenous Shirts - Now Available!
In 2023 we introduced our new Indigenous Shirts which were voted for by our school community. If you would like an additional shirt they are now available to purchase from the front office for $27.00 each.

School Gates
To ensure the safety of our students and visitors attending the school, we keep our school grounds secure outside of supervised hours and during learning time.
Our school gates open from 8:30am in the morning for students to arrive to school. Our gates open again at 2:45pm for you to collect your child in the afternoon.
Preschool families can collect their children prior to the gates opening in the afternoon, but they will be required to ring the bell at the gate.
If you wish to pick your child up prior to 3:00pm, please speak with the office staff and they will arrange for your child to meet you at the office.

2025 Canteen Menu
This year we welcomed our new canteen providers Fresh 4 Kids. Please click for the new canteen menu for 2025. Orders can be placed at the canteen each morning from 8:30am. Please note that they only accept cash and eftpos payments at the canteen on the day of order. Lunch orders need to be placed by 9:10am.
