PSSA Gala Days – Season 2
This term we will have two rounds of PSSA Gala Days. The first round will take place Friday 20 June and the second on Friday 25 July.
This season students will compete in following teams:
- Mixed League Tag – Whitlam Park 3, Busby
- Mixed Newcomeball – Ed Wheeler, Sadlier
- Boys Basketball – Busby West Public School
- Mixed Netball – Woodward Park, Liverpool
We hope all students have a fantastic time playing their respective sports!

Infants Athletics Carnival
On Wednesday 18th June, the P-2 Athletics Carnival was back for another year! With a chilly, cool start to the day, it wasn’t long before our students warmed up with energy, enthusiasm and excitement as we headed to our stations on the back oval eager to get started. Dressed in our sport colours and being cheered on by our classmates, teachers and families, our students proudly showcased their athletic skills and talents with giving each event their best try.
It was wonderful to see the effort, interest and competitive spirits of our sports enthusiasts as they tried their hand at ring toss, parachute games, egg and spoon as well as running races. Challenging themselves with using new sports equipment that they don’t have regular access to including Newcombe ball, stompers, scoop ball and skipping; it was rewarding to see many children develop new skills with practise and persistence, surprising themselves, showing pride in their new found abilities and celebrating one another’s athletic achievements.
A very big thankyou to our parents and families who cheered us on from the sidelines and to the P&C who provided refreshing mandarins and water bottles to quench our thirsty bodies and reboot our energy levels following an active morning.

Kindergarten Excursion to Calmsley Hill City Farm
This term Early Stage One are working on a unit of work called Living Things. To complement this unit of work an excursion to Calmsley Hill City Farm has been organised for Wednesday 25th June.
The children will be involved in a range of activities and tours during the day. They will be provided with information about farm and native animals. As part of the visit your child will be given the opportunity to participate in such experiences as:
- Farmyard petting nursery.
- Cow milking
- Tractor ride
The children will travel to and from Calmsley Hill City Farm by bus. We will be leaving school at 9:15am and returning by 3:00pm.
The cost of the excursion is $35.00, payment can be made online or to the school office by Monday 23rd June.

NSW Public Schools Student Survey
In Term 2, we are offering our students the opportunity to participate in the NSW Public Schools Student Survey. The survey gives students the chance to share their thoughts and feelings about life at school, including questions about their engagement, learning experiences and wellbeing at school.
Hearing directly from our students will help us understand what’s working well and where improvements can be made to our school. The survey is confidential, takes around 10 to 15 minutes to complete, and will be conducted online during school hours.
Participation is voluntary. If you prefer your child not to participate, please complete the opt-out consent form, which has been sent home, and return it to the school.
Further information about the survey is available at: https://education.nsw.gov.au/npss

Pyjama Day
Thank you to the students and staff that participated in Pyjama Day. It was a fun day of comfort on Tuesday, June 17!
School Fun Run
We are holding a School Colour Fun Run this year. We will be raising funds for Flynn who has been selected to represent Australia in an upcoming Baseball tournament in America, so we’re asking all families to ‘Pitch in for Flynn!’
We are super excited to announce that we will be holding our event on Thursday 3 July at school.
What is the School Fun Run?
It is an online fundraising program, where all families go home and create their own online profile. You then choose your target prizes and work towards hitting your target! In your profile you will have a unique cyber safe link to share with your family and friends to donate to get you close to your target.
What do we need you to do?
All we need you to do this week is create an online profile at funrun.com.au. The class with the most profiles by Thursday 3 July will all get an ice block!
Also, in the second week of our campaign, keep an eye out for the Wristband Competition for a chance to win a $500 Prize Credit!
This is an inclusive fundraiser we would love you to be a part of! If you would like to come down and watch your kids run, we would love to see you there. More information will come closer to the day.

‘Pitching in for Flynn’
Our school captain Flynn has been selected to represent Australia in an upcoming Baseball tournament in America.
As he prepares to compete in America, we are raising funds to help cover his travel and accommodation expenses.
Join us in our fundraising efforts to show Flynn our pride and support - let's come together to help make Flynn's dream a reality!

Jellybeans Music
It's getting cold
As Autumn starts to settle in we would like to encourage our families to please wear appropriate uniform to suit the weather conditions.
At Busby West Public School, we are very proud of our school uniform. The wearing of school uniform by students helps build self-confidence and a sense of connection with their community. With the cooler months approaching all students are encouraged to bring a school jacket or jumper with their name clearly printed on it.
We love seeing our students in their navy blue jumpers or jackets!
School uniforms can be purchased from our supplier Lupco - https://lupcofashions.com.au/
Alternatively navy jumpers, jackets and tracksuit pants are readily available from Kmart, Big W, Target and Best & Less.
If you need support with sourcing school uniforms for your children, please get in touch with the school office.
Please remember that students should only wear jumpers or jackets that are part of the school uniform. If a student arrives with an outer layer that isn’t uniform-approved, we’re happy to exchange it for one that is.
Please ensure your child's name is written on all clothing.

Refugee Week
Refugee Week is Australia’s peak annual activity to inform the public about refugees and celebrate the positive contributions made by refugees to Australian society. Busby West Public School representatives attended a Tree Planting Ceremony at Miller Technology High School to mark the significance of Refugee Students in our school community.
Primary Athletics Carnival
On Tuesday 24 June, the annual Athletics Carnival will be held for students in Year 2 (turning 8 this year) to Year 6. The carnival will be held at Winnall Reserve. The carnival will provide students to compete in races and field events. There is no cost to attend with students walking to and from the venue. Parents are most welcome to attend.

NAIDOC celebrations
Busby West will be celebrating NAIDOC on Wednesday 2 July 2025. Students and their families are invited to attend a whole school ceremony on the Basketball Court from 9:10am.
Students will then be immersed in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture through a variety of activities run by Dhinawan yarn. Families are welcome to be part of the audience for the first performance at 9:15am and are reminded to respect performers by keeping small children seated for the duration of the performance.
The school will provide a sausage sizzle lunch for all students and their families. Students will have their sausage sizzle delivered to their classrooms, families can pick up their sausage sizzle during lunch time.
We look forward to a fantastic celebration of culture, community and country.

Busby West Showcase Assembly
On Friday 27 June, the school will be holding a “Showcase” assembly commencing at 2pm. This will provide an opportunity for students to perform to the school showing their hard work in various interest group activities undertaken in Semester 1. Parents are most welcome to attend.

Semester 1 Student Progress Reports

Semester 1 student reports will be sent home on Thursday 3 July. These reports detail how your child has performed based on standards referenced assessment that is used in NSW schools. This means your child’s performance is compared to a set of standards, not to other students. Students in Year 1 to 6 have their achievement evaluated on a five-level scale to report your child’s achievement at this point in their learning. A variety of assessment opportunities were used to gather information about their learning this semester.
You may request the school to provide you with written information that clearly shows your child’s achievement compared to his or her peer group at school. This information will show you the number of children in the group in each of the achievement levels.
P&C Meeting
Our next P&C Meeting will be held Monday 30 June at 9:00am in our Multi-Purpose Room (located next to OOSH). All are welcome to attend!
The P&C (Federation of Parents and Citizens Association of New South Wales) has the objectives to:
- promote the interests of the school by bringing parents, citizens, pupils and teaching staff into close co-operation;
- assist in providing equipment required by the school;
- report to the Minister the material requirements of the school;
- assist the teaching staff in establishment of school policy and management in all facets of school activity.

Students arriving late
We have noticed an increasing number of students arriving at school after the 9:00 am bell.
As a reminder, our school operates from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, and it is crucial for students to be present at school by 8:55 am to ensure they are settled and ready for the day ahead.
Here are some steps that families can use to ensure they arrive at school before 8:55am;

Students who arrive late are missing out on essential morning routines to set them up for a successful day of learning.
Students who arrive after the 9am school bell will need to be bought to the office by a parent to obtain a late note. This ensures that they have arrived at school safely.
Thank you for supporting us to ensure all students have the opportunity to reach their maximum learning potential and be an attendance HERO.
Communicating with you
We need to be able to connect with all families. Please use the Busby West Facebook page or the Sentral Parent Portal to keep up to date with notes, information and provide reasons for your child’s absences. Classes are also using ClassDojo.

Attendance
It is very important for children to develop habits of arriving on time at an early age, beginning from the time they start school. School starts promptly at 9:00am. All students are expected to be at school and in class from 9:00am to 3:00pm each day.
Please remind your child that they must go straight to their designated area when they arrive. Gates open at 8:30am each day. A couple of minutes here and there doesn’t seem like much but every minute counts!

All students are required to provide an explanation for absences on the day they return to school. Alternatively, you can send your child’s teacher a message on Class Dojo, or lodge an absent form via the SENTRAL Parent Portal App. If your child is absent for more than three days, they will require a medical certificate upon their return.
If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s attendance, please contact the office.

Indigenous Shirts - Now Available!
In 2023 we introduced our new Indigenous Shirts which were voted for by our school community. If you would like an additional shirt they are now available to purchase from the front office for $27.00 each.

School Gates
To ensure the safety of our students and visitors attending the school, we keep our school grounds secure outside of supervised hours and during learning time.
Our school gates open from 8:30am in the morning for students to arrive to school. Our gates open again at 2:45pm for you to collect your child in the afternoon.
Preschool families can collect their children prior to the gates opening in the afternoon, but they will be required to ring the bell at the gate.
If you wish to pick your child up prior to 3:00pm, please speak with the office staff and they will arrange for your child to meet you at the office.
