This season the following sports will be on offer:
- Girls Basketball – Busby West Public School

We hope all students have a fantastic time playing their respective sport!

Education Week
Public Education Week 2025 celebrated this year’s theme, “Ignite your potential”. At Busby West Public School, we acknowledged the achievements of our students by showcasing their creative talents in dance and choir during our whole school assembly. Afterwards, parents and families had the opportunity to join their children in the classroom for some fun Mathematics activities! We thank the many families that participated in this event and enjoyed a beautiful picnic lunch to conclude a wonderful morning celebrating the students at Busby West Public School.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our school staff and families who uplift the learning of our students every day and help them realise their full potential.
Education Week- Ignite Your Potential

Book week
The theme for this year’s Book Week is “Book an Adventure!”. To celebrate Book Week at Busby West Public School there will be a Book Character parade on Thursday 21 August commencing at 9.10 am in the hall for all students Preschool to Year 2.
The students are asked to come dressed as a character from a favourite book. Ideas could include a Princess, Where’s Wally, Superhero or Sport Stars. Parents are welcome to come along, dress up and join in the fun.

Mini Fete
This term, Stage 3 students will be hosting a Mini Fete on Thursday 11 September. They will be selling a variety of products and running fun and interactive stalls. The fete is the main fundraising activity for the Year 6 gift to the school and will also help subsidise the Year 6 Farewell.
The students will be creating a carnival type atmosphere for children and parents to enjoy. Please save the date and come along to support our Stage 3 students.

P&C Father’s Day Stall

Father’s Day is celebrated on Sunday 7 September this year. Our Father’s Day Stall will be held on Monday 25 August and Wednesday 27 August. This allows an opportunity for every student to purchase a range of gifts for their dad, grandparent or special someone.
Your child’s teacher will let them know the allocated day for their class to attend the stall. It will be in the multipurpose room next to OoSH and each class will have a rostered time.
Gifts range in price from $1.00 to $10.00.
Attached to this note is a sheet of 10 Father’s Day raffle tickets. These can be purchased by families and friends for $1 each ticket. Completed tickets and money collected to be returned to the school office by Monday 25 August.
Raffle tickets will also be on sale for $1.00 each at the Father’s Day stall. Prizes include baskets with items especially for dad’s or that special someone.
If you are able to assist with the stall please let the office know so your details can be passed on to the P&C committee. All volunteers will be warmly welcomed.
Jellybeans Music Term 3

This year we have continued to provide expert tuition in music by employing specialist teachers. In Term 3, Stage 3 will participate in music on Thursdays. The costs for these programs are covered by the school to ensure all students can attend. This year we request families contribute $10 each time your child participates in a program.
Preschool 2026
We are now taking preschool enrolments for 2026. Children who turn four years of age before 31 July 2026 and intend to start school in 2026 are eligible to enrol. Please contact the school office for information.

Kindergarten 2026
Our school is taking enrolments for Kindergarten students for 2026. A child is eligible to start school if they turn five years old by 31 July 2026. All children must be attending school by their sixth birthday. We will be having Kindergarten Orientation meetings early in Term 4. This is an opportunity for our 2026 Kindergarten students to become familiar with school and a chance for us to get to know them. Parents are required to stay at school during these times and participate in information sessions to assist a smooth transition into school. Please contact the school office for an enrolment form.

School Uniform
It's getting cold
As Autumn starts to settle in we would like to encourage our families to please wear appropriate uniform to suit the weather conditions.
At Busby West Public School, we are very proud of our school uniform. The wearing of school uniform by students helps build self-confidence and a sense of connection with their community. With the cooler months approaching all students are encouraged to bring a school jacket or jumper with their name clearly printed on it.
We love seeing our students in their navy blue jumpers or jackets!
School uniforms can be purchased from our supplier Lupco - https://lupcofashions.com.au/
Alternatively navy jumpers, jackets and tracksuit pants are readily available from Kmart, Big W, Target and Best & Less.
If you need support with sourcing school uniforms for your children, please get in touch with the school office.
Please remember that students should only wear jumpers or jackets that are part of the school uniform. If a student arrives with an outer layer that isn’t uniform-approved, we’re happy to exchange it for one that is.
Please ensure your child's name is written on all clothing.

Students arriving late
We have noticed an increasing number of students arriving at school after the 9:00 am bell.
As a reminder, our school operates from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, and it is crucial for students to be present at school by 8:55 am to ensure they are settled and ready for the day ahead.
Here are some steps that families can use to ensure they arrive at school before 8:55am;

Students who arrive late are missing out on essential morning routines to set them up for a successful day of learning.
Students who arrive after the 9am school bell will need to be bought to the office by a parent to obtain a late note. This ensures that they have arrived at school safely.
Thank you for supporting us to ensure all students have the opportunity to reach their maximum learning potential and be an attendance HERO.
Communicating with you
We need to be able to connect with all families. Please use the Busby West Facebook page or the Sentral Parent Portal to keep up to date with notes, information and provide reasons for your child’s absences. Classes are also using ClassDojo.

Attendance
It is very important for children to develop habits of arriving on time at an early age, beginning from the time they start school. School starts promptly at 9:00am. All students are expected to be at school and in class from 9:00am to 3:00pm each day.
Please remind your child that they must go straight to their designated area when they arrive. Gates open at 8:30am each day. A couple of minutes here and there doesn’t seem like much but every minute counts!

All students are required to provide an explanation for absences on the day they return to school. Alternatively, you can send your child’s teacher a message on Class Dojo, or lodge an absent form via the SENTRAL Parent Portal App. If your child is absent for more than three days, they will require a medical certificate upon their return.
If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s attendance, please contact the office.

Indigenous Shirts - Now Available!
In 2023 we introduced our new Indigenous Shirts which were voted for by our school community. If you would like an additional shirt they are now available to purchase from the front office for $27.00 each.

School Gates
To ensure the safety of our students and visitors attending the school, we keep our school grounds secure outside of supervised hours and during learning time.
Our school gates open from 8:30am in the morning for students to arrive to school. Our gates open again at 2:45pm for you to collect your child in the afternoon.
Preschool families can collect their children prior to the gates opening in the afternoon, but they will be required to ring the bell at the gate.
If you wish to pick your child up prior to 3:00pm, please speak with the office staff and they will arrange for your child to meet you at the office.
